Partnership Response Filing

On Monday, August 24th, the Partnership for Open and Fair Skies submitted a major legal response to the U.S. Department of Transportation, rebutting false claims made by the three Gulf carriers to the U.S. government. In the lengthy, 400-page filing, the Partnership categorically disproves statements by the Gulf carriers to the U.S. government and revealed significant harm to the U.S. carriers and American jobs.

The Partnership’s response provides hard evidence to the U.S. government that the Gulf carriers’ claims are false and that those airlines have gone to great lengths to obfuscate the obvious – that massive government subsidies are propping up the three carriers. It also shows that the Gulf carriers are not creating new demand when they enter U.S. markets, and instead are diverting passengers and traffic from other airlines, causing significant harm to the U.S. aviation industry.

View the full filing below, as well as never-before-seen financial documents and additional analysis, which further strengthen the case that the governments of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are attempting to dismantle core Open Skies principles. The Obama administration should closely review this evidence and quickly request consultations with the United Arab Emirates and Qatar to ensure that international agreements are being adhered to so all airlines can compete on a level playing field.
