Partnership for Open & Fair Skies Welcomes the Southwest Airlines Pilots’ Association
The Partnership for Open & Fair Skies today announced the addition of the Southwest Airlines Pilots’ Association (SWAPA), into the coalition. The Partnership includes the Air Line Pilots Association, the Allied Pilots Association, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, the Association of Flight Attendants, the Communications Workers of America, the Airline Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the Transportation Workers Union of America, along with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.
“The Partnership welcomes the Southwest Airlines Pilots’ Association to our push for open and fair skies. SWAPA understands that the Gulf carriers are supported by massive subsidies from their governments, which puts American jobs and the economy at risk,” said Jill Zuckman, chief spokesperson for the Partnership for Open & Fair Skies. “Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, and Emirates receive billions from their governments, contrary to Open Skies policy, and have created an unfair playing field for U.S. carriers to operate. SWAPA and the other members of the Partnership are asking the U.S. government to open consultations with Qatar and United Arab Emirates on this critical issue and to seek a freeze on new Gulf carrier capacity.”
