Dallas Business Journal: Fort Worth mayor sides with American, Delta, United airlines in Open Skies dispute

"Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price has joined a growing number of major-market mayors in calling on the U.S. government to address what the city leaders view as violations of Open Skies policies by three state-owned Middle Eastern airlines.

The mayors are urging open consultations with the nations of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to address $42 billion of alleged subsidies and other allegedly unfair benefits funneled by the nations’ governments to their state-owned airlines over the last decade.

Price said the subsidies that Qatar and the UAE are providing to Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways and Emirates Airline are “altering the free-market framework established by Open Skies.” Open Skies policies refer to international aviation industry standards designed to foster a fair and competitive environment."
