Statement by Partnership for Open & Fair Skies on Lufthansa’s Cancellation of Frankfurt-Kuwait-Doha Route

Washington, D.C. (September 12, 2017) – In response to a report that Lufthansa will end all flights from Frankfurt, Germany to Doha, Qatar via Kuwait, the Partnership for Open & Fair Skies released the following statement:

“This is yet another example of the subsidized Gulf carriers, in this case Qatar Airways, utilizing their market-distorting advantages to drive carriers out of key markets,” said Jill Zuckman, chief spokesperson for the Partnership for Open & Fair Skies. “This isn’t a case of aggressive competition; it is an airline with limitless resources from its government owners forcing a market-abiding carrier out of a key market. The Gulf carriers have already driven American and European carriers out of Middle Eastern and Asian markets and will continue to do so unless the Trump administration holds them accountable.”
