Secretary of State-Designate Mike Pompeo Commits to Enforce Open Skies Agreements During Confirmation Hearing

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 12, 2018) – In response to Secretary of State nominee Mike Pompeo’s commitment to enforcing Open Skies policy during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today, the Partnership for Open & Fair Skies released the following statement:

“We are pleased that Secretary-designate Pompeo is committed to enforcing our Open Skies agreements and recognizes their importance to the American airline industry,” said Jill Zuckman, chief spokesperson for the Partnership for Open & Fair Skies. “For years, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar have repeatedly violated their agreements with the United States, pumping billions in government subsidies to their airlines and putting American jobs at risk. We look forward to working with Mr. Pompeo to hold the UAE accountable and to ensure that Qatar lives up to its new commitments.”
