Partnership for Open & Fair Skies Statement on Sir Tim Clark’s Comments Against U.S. Airlines and Aviation Workers

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 5, 2018) – In response to recent comments by Emirates President Sir Tim Clark attacking U.S. airlines and workers for calling for fair competition in international aviation, the Partnership for Open & Fair Skies released the following statement:

“With all due respect to Sir Clark, name calling is his terrain, not ours,” said Jill Zuckman, chief spokesperson for the Partnership for Open & Fair Skies. “We have documented more than $50 billion in government subsidies to Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways. And we have done so at great effort and expense, given the opaque nature of the Gulf carriers’ so-called financials. It is those subsidies that have pushed the US carriers out of the Middle East and have diminished our ability to serve India. The harm is real and the damage is to American jobs. When a nation violates its agreement with the United States, there are consequences. And that’s reality, not theater, not noise and not name-calling.”
